ABOUT THE AUTHORS
Marti Benedetti and Mary Dempsey have been writing professionally for as long as they can remember. In this, their first book together, they bring their storytelling skills to a subject of great personal interest to both: the experiences of people who love after loss.
Marti, a widow, lives in the Detroit area. She started her news career four decades ago and later became a self-employed journalist and corporate writer and researcher. She currently reports for Crain’s Detroit Business. She is a skilled interviewer who has written profiles that span a range of people, from Carhartt matriarch and businesswoman Gretchen Valade to actor and singer Jeff Daniels to former Detroit hockey star Steve Yzerman.
Marti has a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Michigan State University. She intersperses Death Did Us Part with essays from her blog,
Mary, based in Washington, D.C., dates a widower. She began her career reporting for newspapers and magazines in the United States and Latin America. Today she writes and edits for universities, nonprofits and government agencies. Telling stories through personal experiences—from one-on-one interviews with Thor Heyerdahl of Kon-Tiki fame to Steve Ballmer when he was Microsoft CEO to retired U.S. Army General Colin Powell—is one of her favorite undertakings. She happily taps those interviewing skills for Death Did Us Part.
Mary has a Bachelor of Journalism from the University of Missouri and a Master of Arts in political science from the University of Michigan.
