In their first book together, Marti Benedetti and Mary A. Dempsey combined their storytelling skills to reveal the remarkable, unexpected and sometimes radical romance pathways taken by widows who seek another chance at love..



Marti lived most of her life in the Detroit area. Following a career as a newspaper reporter, she became a self-employed journalist, corporate writer and researcher. She reported extensively for Crain's Detroit Business, People magazine and other publications. In 2021, after finishing the  manuscript for Finding Love After Loss, but before its publication, Marti died of metastatic breast cancer. 

Marti graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in journalism from Michigan State University. Finding Love After Loss was inspired by essays from her widowhood blog.


Mary spent many years working as an editor at newspapers and magazines in the United States and Latin America. She now does editorial work for universities, nonprofits and international think tanks. She lives in a book-filled house across the street from a public library in Washington, DC.
